Education Support

“Living in a small rural community, it has provided enrichment in the arts for our children as well as a wonderful opportunity to share family time together in an enriching environment.”
Jonathan and Cheryl Grether, Algona, 2005.
With school budgets continually stretched and access to arts opportunities in school in jeopardy, the Civic Center provides essential opportunities for Central Iowa's young people to experience the educational power of professional, live theater. Each year:
-
More than 10,000 students come to the Civic Center with their school for an Applause! Series educational performance.
-
40% of Applause! students attend on the special Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program $1 ticket price.
-
15 underserved families are introduced to Broadway theater via Family First Nights.
-
Youth and adults alike participate in master classes and educational workshops that bring performers and the audience together.
“I want to thank you for the wonderful tour yesterday. My kids were so excited about the show and couldn't stop talking about the theater tour. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with my kids. You may have inspired one of them to pursue a career in the theater!!!”
Nancy Foley, Perkins Elementary, 2006
