Capital Campaign
Des Moines, Iowa is a national success story! To walk through the streets of downtown Des Moines is to experience the energy and momentum of a city that is truly on the move.
In 1979, the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines opened as the beginning of the revitalization of the downtown area. It is now that the movement that began with the Civic Center is accelerating and coming to fruition with new downtown lofts and apartments, the development of East Village and Gateway West, new attractions such as Wells Fargo Arena and the Science Center of Iowa, and the much anticipated Principal Riverwalk.
The Civic Center of Greater Des Moines is proud of its location and role as a geographic and cultural “centerpiece” of Des Moines and Central Iowa. Our facility, now more than 25 years old, is in need of several major updates and refurbishments that will ensure that we are able to continue to be an anchor attraction for Des Moines and one of Iowa’s most beloved cultural organizations. The campaign will allow the Civic Center to:
-
Replace the current marquees with state of the art LED Signage
-
Renovate the West Entrance, Stoner Theater Entrance and Skyway Entrance
-
Refurbish the seats in the Main Hall
-
Replace carpet and furniture throughout the facility
-
Replace the rigging and fly system on the stage
-
Improve seating and Ticket Office accessibility for guests in wheelchairs
-
Add $1 million to the Education endowment to fund new and ongoing education efforts
This is only a sample of the work that will be completed by the Civic Centerpiece Campaign. For more information, please download the campaign casebook or call the Civic Center Development Office at (515) 246-2300.
The best way for the community to make a donation and leave their mark on the Civic Center is by making a gift to the Musical Chairs campaign which will replace all 2,735 seats in the main hall and as well as assisting in other planned capital improvements.
