Arnold Lobel's beloved characters hop off the page and onto the stage in this new musical that follows two great friends - the cheerful and popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad. Through a year’s journey they follow the four seasons and learn life lessons including an important one about friendship and rejoicing in the attributes that make each of us different and special.

Developed by Mr. Lobel's daughter, Adrianne Lobel, the stage musical remains true to the spirit of the four original stories from which it is adapted.

BEYOND THE PERFORMANCE:

• FROGS AND TOADS AT THE ZOO: Frogs, Toads, and Friends Amphibian Program - Expand the field trip experience to include the zoo!  On the same day as the performance of A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD at the Civic Center, students will have an opportunity to learn the basic characteristics of amphibians by comparing and contrasting frogs, toads, and salamanders in the Discovery Center at the Blank Park Zoo. Students will have a Show-and-Tell session with these animals, learn about native Iowa amphibians, and have a hands-on experience some of the other animals in the Frog and Toad stories.
• Fee: $2 per person.
• Capacity: 100 students per session (10 am and 12:30 pm, one hour).
• Duration: 60 minutes.

• ZOO AT YOUR SCHOOL: Frog, Toads, and Friends Amphibian Program - Bring the zoo to your school!  Educators from the Blank Park Zoo will visit your school to teach students about amphibians using both animals and artifacts.  A Show-and-Tell session will allow students to have a hands-on experience with animals from the Frog and Toad stories.  Students will also learn about Iowa’s native amphibians and what we can to do protect them. 
• Available January 11-March 12, 2010.
• Fee: $2.50 per student.
• Capacity: 30 students per session maximum, 3-classroom session per school minimum.
• Duration: Approximately 60 minutes.
