APPLAUSE! SERIES SCHOOL PERFORMANCES


The APPLAUSE! SERIES brings world-class performing artists and diverse art forms to the Civic Center’s stages for one-hour matinee performances designed for students in pre-kindergarten through the twelfth grade. Each performance connects directly to in-class curriculum, providing the perfect opportunity to learn about and through the arts. All tickets $1!

 

The Civic Center welcomes all public, private, and home schools to the APPLAUSE! SERIES.

ORDERING TICKETS
Tickets for the 2009-2010 APPLAUSE! SERIES are on sale now. Online ticket requests are preferred.

PAYMENT
Payment for APPLAUSE! SERIES shows is due six weeks prior to the performance. Unpaid orders may be released for resale.

STUDY GUIDES
Study guide materials will be available to all schools attending APPLAUSE! SERIES performances. These materials provide information about the performance, company, art form, and provide curriculum-related activities and performance discussions.
 
PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE EVALUATIONS
Your feedback is important to the Civic Center. Following each performance educators are invited to complete an experience survey. Completed surveys are entered into a drawing for complimentary tickets to a Wills Broadway Series show.

 




VOICES FROM ELLIS ISLAND  

October 26-27, 2009

Ellis Island was the first experience in America for 12 million immigrants who fled hardships such as poverty, religious persecution, and political unrest in their homelands—seeking freedom and opportunity.

Grades: 5-9


VOICES FROM THE RESISTANCE 

October 29-30, 2009

Ordinary people worked wherever the Nazis were—France, Italy, Germany, Holland, and Scandinavia—to fight against Hitler. These resistance fighters risked their lives every day during the reign of the Third Reich, and they have stories to tell.

Grades: 7-12


THOMAS EDISON: INVENTOR, LECTURER, AND PRANKSTER 

November 16-18, 2009

In this solo performance, Mr. Edison shares information about his life, his inventions, and the lessons the inventions taught him. Students help solve some of the problems and obstacles Edison overcame.

Grades: 3-6


THE LEWIS & CLARK EXPEDITION 

November 19-20, 2009

Broadway stage veteran Patrick Garner explores the two-and-a-half year adventure of Captain Meriwether Lewis and William Clark in a one-hour action-packed performance. Along the way audiences have so much fun they don’t realize all the lessons learned.

BUFFALO SOLDIER

Based on the powerful true-story of our nation’s longest-lived Buffalo Soldier and veteran of the Spanish-American War, this piece retells the heroic stories of the brave soldiers of the 9th and 10th Cavalries.

Arnold Lobel's beloved characters hop off the page and onto the stage in this new musical that follows two great friends - the cheerful and popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad.

Mardi Gras in May! Grammy-award winning artist Terrance Simien uses Zydeco music—the indigenous music of the French-speaking Creoles of south Louisiana—to share his Creole culture and history.
